NORWEGIAN AMBASSADOR VISITED "SAFE HOUSE" IN NIS
2.07.2014

His Excellency, the Ambassador of Norway to Serbia Nils Ragnar Kamsvog, in the framework of the visit to the city of Nis, together with hosts, Mayor of Nis, prof. Dr. Zoran Perisic and President of City Municipality of Palilula, Boban Džunić, visited the "Safe House", a shelter for women and children who are victims of domestic violence. Sonja Scekic, director of the institution, informed the guests about the activities and equipment.

Safe houses are specialized services for women survivors of domestic violence, that provide shelter for people exposed to acute violence and are a necessary mechanism in the system of protection from violence. Safe houses are not meant as a permanent solution, but as a necessary intervention for the temporary relocation from the situation that endangers the life and safety. This refuge for women and children that are victims of domestic violence provides security and free accommodation, food, psychosocial support (counseling, psychotherapy) and legal aid. Most shelters in Serbia are the responsibility of local centers for social work and act as an integral part of the social protection system, which involves co-operation with the police, health care facilities and other institutions and organizations active in the field of violence against women. Safe House in Niš was founded in 2011.

At the end of the visit Nis, Norwegian Ambassador to Serbia Nils Ragnar Kamsvog, visited the "Business Incubator Center", which was established with the support of the Norwegian Government.
